  • There is NO reason that Lynda had to restrict their App to only “Higher” Paid Plans

I’ve been a Lynda subscriber for countless years. Then they release this app. I LOVE apps compared to working with things in a Browser. It is just so more efficient, smooth, and usually feature-rich. But with this App, they *Specifically* left out tens-of-thousands? Millions? of their subscriber-base. I absolutely refuse to upgrade my account (It’s already enough as it is). And it is a fairly-significant amount of extra $$$. I’m just not doing it: And with SO many other excellent, similar services (many that are much better than Lynda) - I think they’re shooting themselves in the foot, maybe both feet? Their app has been out for a while now, and they haven’t even made a mention about letting us “lowly” paying people use the App. I’m absolutely, emphatically and whole-heartedly taking a stand against Lynda - And I think you should too. If many of us cancel (and put in the comments section WHY we canceled), I think they would full-on-panic. But I think everyone that can, should discontinue their service - Let them see massive dropoffs. And to add insult to injury, it is just so disappointing. I’m an App Developer myself - And know for an absolute fact, that with their system already working for Paid-members (Which would basically make them add a few lines of code), it could be be a 5-minute process. But no. Obviously they just don’t want to do it, which is completely up to them - But I gurantee they are losing customers over this. All over - And I’m going to cancel mine tomorrow. Now, I’m signing up for another (a good) teaching site (there are a LOT out there) - And with much better pricing and inclusions. It’s sad to see them go down this path, I just don’t get the reasoning behind it. If they don’t add normal accont subscribers to the App, I’m going to wait until midnight tomorrow and cancel. It is just disappointing. So I’d suggest NOT going with Lynda at all. Find another good site (there are plenty - with TONS of content). I can’t believe that they did this!?!. Desktop apps have, Plus, they just got purchased by LinkedIn, so who knows what wil change (for the worst I assume). Anyway, I’d stay clear of them f this App. ---Original Post--- At the very least, it should at least support a nicely streamlined App to watch their videos for the normal (non-premium subscriber, just plain paid-subscriber) user. Yes there website is there and works, but an App, as long as they’re going to bother to make one, would and could certainly be nicely streamlined and make the experience easier, cleaner, more straightforward (with our playlists and so on) and many other things. Again yes, the website works for this. But an App would be better for many usages - especially since they went to the bother of making an App. I see how watching offline videos would be nice for premium members, yet again I must say that for standard paid subscribers — why not just add us into the mix and let us use this app as well to view online-only-when-connected videos/courses? Maybe it’s just me, but I think it would be handy to be able to use this app as a standard-paid-subscriber. If I could afford a premium membership, I’d probably go and get one. But I still pay, and shouldn’t be shut out of the mix just for the pure sake of it.
  • Just Installed on my Mac

I just installed the Lynda.com app on my Mac running system OS 10.9.5 The app crashed immediately. It did this every time I launched it. Some help would be appreciated!
  • Organization Login works just fine

I see a lot of people struggling to use this app with their organization’s login. I was able to do so by clicking the “1 click login” link in the app, which took me to my browser and verified that I was in fact logged in with my organization. It’s clear that this app is just a companion to the site, not an alternative to it. It has no function outside of storing and managing downloaded courses. If that’s all you need it for, it’s great.
  • Cannot be used with organizations

I don't know what is the point of this app. It is not usable if you login through your organization. First of all, you can't even login through your organization. If that's what you want to do, you have to use your browser to login and then connect. But even if I connect, there's nothing that the app does or shows but a simple display area that says I don't have any downloaded content. Period. No navigation, no courses, no download buttons, no nothing. So basically this app is useless if you use Lynda through your organization. It should be mentioned in the description.
  • This app blocked my downloads

The app allows you to access your downloads as long as you stay a member. I suspended my membership over the summer and the app just blocked all my downloads. Don’t waste time and disk space — Also I don’t understand how to justify a premium membership that allows downloading if downloads don’t stay with you — what a strange pricing policy!
  • Disappointing

Even if you’re a paid LinkedIn/Learning, there’s no connection to this app. You cannot watch anything. LinkedIn bought Lynda three years ago, so that’s disappointing.
  • Corporate login is a no-go. Bummer.

Wanted to maximize available display space by viewing the tutorials offline using the app, but can’t login. There are two options, an “already logged in to the website” and the typical username/password. Since I was already logged in to the site, I chose that option. Spin, spin, spin, spin …need i go on? Nada. Oh, well, great online presence and great tutorials. App needs work (I think it does, I can’t even get past login)—can’t win them all.
  • Perfectly fine if you come in with the right expectations

This is a tool, not a standalone Lynda.com. It has one and only one job, to allow you to watch Lynda offline, and it does that just fine, if you are fortunate enough to have abiliity view them offline. To those wondering why it’s just tellng them they haven’t downloaded any courses yet, it’s because you need to get on the Website, find a course, and go to “View Offline”.
  • Unclear user interface

    By newz2000
To say this app is “minimalist” is an understatement. There really is no UI unless you visit Lynda.com in Safari and then, on a course click “View Offline” and then “Start the Download.” At that point, it opens this app and you can then view the course without having an Internet connection. Developers: I’d suggest at the least, adding the ability to see my playlists in the app and/or a “browse courses” button that takes you to the website.
  • Needs updating to LinkedIn Learning

    1
    By Markus Weldon
This app doesn’t work properly if you are coming in via a LinkedIn Learning membership. Also the fact you need a Lynda.com account first to use this is highly confusing as a paying Lynda by LinkedIn subscriber. What happens if you don’t have a Lynda.com account and you have signed up for LinkedIn Learning? Well, you would think the signup page at Lynda.com would allow you to then setup an account which you can tie back to your LinkedIn Learning - Wrong! Lynda.com signup pages route you to LinkedIn making it near impossible to setup a Lynda.com account. Whoever designed the current Lynda.com to LinkedIn integration/merge SHAME ON YOU! Please fix this and release a dedicated LinkedIn Learning app for Mac.
