  • UPDATE PLEASE!!

Since updating to 11.2.5 . I can no longer safe knfb files. This app is in my opinion one of the greatest OCR recognition out there very pricy but worth it👍🏾. But at 99.99 there should not be any issues with iOS updates. Again! The save knfb file feature crashes every time I try to save a file using iOS 11.2.5 . Developer PLEASE GIVE US AN UPDATE!!!! and please be on top of future updates because the apple corporation loves them and that process has destroyed developers and clients.

This is a great app for single-page scanning! With a couple fixes it could be great for multi-page scanning, too (more about that below). Bought at $50 (50% off the regular $100 price), its OCR has proven very accurate and quick, amazing me at how it can accommodate automatically for slightly curved pages and such. I appreciate how you can add pages to existing files at any time. Thanks to the developers who continue to refine the app! While it is over 90% there, it is too rough for a $50 app (let alone $100 at the regular price). Scanning a document over 35-40 pgs consistently causes the app to crash. (I've resorted to scanning longer documents into multiple 35-page files in knfbReader, a rather untidy but functional workaround.) The app also lacks bookmarking, an essential feature for multi-page documents, especially for the visually impaired. I have resorted to exporting the text as a txt file and importing it into the Voice Dream app, which has superior text-to-voice and ereader capabilities than knfbReader (e.g. use a slider to move forward and back through the text, higher quality voices, automatic bookmarking saves where you left off, syncs with Pocket, displays the amount of time it would take to listen to a selection next to the name, etc.) Note: I've noticed that the device you use to scan can make a significant difference in scan speed. Changing from an iPod touch 5th gen to an iPhone 6 doubled my scan speed, in part due to faster focusing. When possible, scanning two facing pages of a book at a time doubled my scanning speed again. Tip: Use as bright a light as possible to speed up focus time and, therefore, scan time's under lower light conditions focusing can take considerably longer. A couple other requests include: - Cloud syncing between devices without requiring manually exporting from one device and importing into the app on another device - More polished user interface I am sighted and use this app to increase the number of articles and books I can go through by listening instead of reading. I tend to listen to more audiobooks than I read paper books, and my hope is to make more paper articles and books readily accessible in audio form. This app is a great example of how improving accessibility for some can improve it for all. In short, knfbReader is a diamond in the rough. At this price, I expect better quality. Once the crashing and bookmarking have been worked out, it could be magnificent. (Then, I would give it 5 stars.) The developers are actively working on it, so with continued effort they may yet refine knfbReader into a solid app worthy of the price.
  • Speach Rate Adjustments Are Bad

    2

In a recent update the speach rate settings are bad. First of all the range of speach rate is unnessessary. From way too slow to way too fast. Secondly, when set on 48 is normal (for me), but slide it to 52 and it's way too fast. ???? Lastly, when I'm finally able to get the speach rate set it goes back to the default setting every time I close the program. The default setting is insanely slow. This whole "Speach Rate" issue is very frustrating and needs to be addressed. Otherwise the app works well. Update: 8 December, 2017. The first few words frequently come out as unreadable text (symbols). This app is good, but for $100 it should be MUCH better and get more frequent attention and updates. Still 2 star at best 😒
  • Why is there no formatting?

    By Turner42
seeing AI is free and maintains the bulk of formatting when scanning a document. Prismo Go is free and maintains the bulk of Formatting. Prizmo full is $10 and maintains the bulk of formatting. Why should anyone spend $100 and not get formatted results? Yes, it is easier to save documents and create multi-page documents with KNFB Reader, but is that really worth $100 without formatting?

This is one of the most amazing apps to ever hit the market. I haven’t received greatest hits from this app. Thank you very much for making this application. This is exactly whatthe iPhone needed.

This app provides fast, accurrate, & consistent access to printed text by taking a picture and reading it back verbally. I love that it provides instant access through a Braille display. This This app provides get access and is well worth the value.

I've got to say… This app is well worth the money… I was hesitant to purchase… But… Now… I realize I could not live without it… it takes a little patience to learn how to use it… I go through my mail… And if I have something that I am not sure about… I save it in a little pile for when my sided friends come around… this does not happen very often and makes for a much more enjoyable visit when my friends come over and do not have to spend an hour and a half reading the mail… if you have a good light and a steady hand… It works pretty good… Would recommend to anyone who cannot read with their eyeballs
