Babbel – Learn Languages App Details

Learn Spanish, French, Italian, German, and many more languages with Babbel. Developed by a team of language learning experts, Babbel has helped millions of people speak a new language with confidence. THE BABBEL METHOD Here’s what makes Babbel more effective than any other language learning app: 1. Confidence — Our goal is to get you speaking from your very first lesson. And our elegantly designed courses give you the confidence to get there. We teach you how to engage in practical, everyday conversations, making it easier for you to have authentic experiences in your new language. 2. Comprehension — Our lessons immerse you in relevant culture and real-life conversations. We want you to really take in the language, not just memorize useless phrases. And we provide helpful hints in English (or your native language) to make your new language more relatable. 3. Retention — We know you’re busy. That’s why our lessons are short but sweet: about 10-15 minutes, and designed to send your new language straight to long-term memory. We regularly refresh your memory with our dynamic review sessions, which target areas where you need improvement most. Finally, we make sure you really grasp what you’re learning by bringing it back later in a new context. • Hahahahaha

This is terrible. The app isn’t terrible itself it’s alright but they advertise on social media saying “our app tough these people to speak other languages fluently in 7 days, try now for free” and then you get this😂😂😂

Excellent way of learning German. Convenient, inexpensive and builds on what you learn as you go.
  • Not worth it

Not worth the price of a subscription
  • Not that good

I use the German one and the part to listen and repeat the sentences don’t work at all. First, they read the sentence too fast. Second, they add words to the sentences that are not learned yet. You can’t get the right pronunciation of words because they speak too fast. Then, when you try to repeat the sentence that you could not understand because they speak so fast, there isn’t enough time to articulate all the words. Or I can just make a bunch of sounds similar and the app accepts it. Ridiculous. I paid for it for the year but end up using the free Duolingo app better. Every once in a while I came back to Babbel and then I remember why I don’t like it.
  • Used many apps, this my fav!

I have been practicing my Spanish through the years in preparation for Mission Trips. I have used many different apps. Babbel is by far, my favorite! I do wish it had an option for South American Spanish or Spain Spanish. But, it teaches you to speak right away. I also like that it encourages you to learn through many ways: memorizing, hearing it spoken, writing it, etc. This app also is similar to one of the biggest Spanish speaking programs, but this one is more affordable.
  • Clunky, yet effective

    By Reynard Sheerr
While the learning method in the Babbel app is quite effective, the app is in dire need of improvement. I’m learning Spanish with this app. It is working. But: The course seems to be weighted heavily towards Spanish that is spoken in Spain. The vast majority of Spanish speakers are in Latin America, so this is kind of weird. This becomes somewhat annoying with “vosotros vs. ustedes”. The plural informal you is not used in Latin American Spanish, yet the app only mentions this in passing. The UI seems super clunky. The custom keyboard that is used, while a clever idea, starts failing when one needs to enter many words. It’s just not sizing right and then it becomes frustrating. For iPhone X users, the app looks extra ugly as it isn’t designed for the phone’s screen size. All in all, it’s an okay app. I use it daily because it is an effective way to learn Spanish but the experience could be a 100 times better. See duolingo for a beautiful UI.
  • Worst microphone settings

Two months now and the microphone settings do not work. The technical service very robotic. I suggest you do a long trial before buying. My microphone works with Rosetta Stone and Duolingo but not Babbel CAUTION

    Muy bueno.
  • Confusing

    By amysojourn
Was rolling along getting the hang of it when suddenly the parts of speech got complicated with no explanation and totally stalled me out. I think I need a book or a class that’s more informative.
