Skype for iPad App Reviews

  • They keep moving backwards

    By ElliotMK
While the rollback of the Snapchat like features is welcomed the stability of the application continues to move backwards.

  • What happened to Skype??

    By Lucienback
Skype was so much more reliable before it was taken over by Microsoft. I am now regularly experiencing either no video on one side or low audio on the other, images freezing and cutoffs. With an annual subscription of $ 160.00 one would expect better quality. WhatsApp which is free is getting better and better!
  • It used to be good

    By MinnieSmith
Added this “bot” called Cortana that user cannot get rid of (-2 stars), getting to user preferences gets harder w every update (-1 star). Used to be a great unintrusive app/service, now I’m contemplating Facetime (ugh).
  • Stopped Working Altogether

    By EVals29
I wasn't going to write a review seeing as how my device is a little older. But my incoming and outgoing messages stopped working on my iPad. What annoyed me is the fact that a couple of months ago I was on the phone with Support - troubleshooting the desktop version for almost an hour before they concluded it may be that Safari was no longer supported. Seems to me they are phasing out support of Apple products. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
  • Getting dodgy

    By Marmosette
Skype has been adding too many novelties lately at the expense of usability. I have a lot of long-distance friends and I have used skype constantly for about 15 years. I always have chats open. Calls are less convenient for me, so happen less often but always they happen while still chatting. With recent updates, though, it has gotten harder to do that. The chat field is smaller and crowded. It’s harder to switch between chats. A lot of messages have gone missing, never arriving at all. Just now it offered a survey for feedback on all the updates, and when I tried to scroll back up and check the next topic I wanted to leave feedback on, the whole thing shut. I was afraid that when Microsoft took it over they would start making needless “improvements” just to make it more Windowsy until someday they’ll package it with Windows and not let us use it at all. Looks like that’s starting. I’m tired of everything being updated to add more useless things like a choice of text colors that just make it harder to read, or more icons/reactions so you can’t find what you’re looking for. I liked that they had some Doctor Who and Sherlock reaction gifs built in for a while, but those are gone now too. Just as I get used to things and start figuring them out, there’s another update. I don’t want more interface changes every two weeks or even two years. Just fix the actual bugs and problems. If you want to build a new thing, then build a new thing. Don’t just continually change an old one that works and that people like as-is.
  • Second to none

Far by far by far and by far. Skype is entirely second to none. Nothing in it’s class, others are a poor photocopy of it. Well done!
  • Can’t live without it
