  • Any other languages ?

    By ☔️😛🌊💕❤️✌🏻💕
I really like the idea of the app and how it works but I was hoping I could learn Korean this way because of the format this app uses . Maybe in the future , if that’s possible for learning Korean ?
  • Thanks

  • Hard to choose

I had downloaded so many app and then it was very difficult to choose the best, I wanted an app that I could use at the same time I was studying with another flash card app.
  • Excellent, but not a comprehensive tool

    By cherrueix
TLDR: The app is great to use, fun to work through exercises, gain a little assurance through the social exercises, but only half the curriculum seems best suited as a comprehensive intro for total beginners. The rest is good as an additional resource for intermediate students. As a piece of software, it is well designed and I like the improvements they've added in recent months. It's still not a great app for smaller phones like the SE, though, as a lot of potential answers are off screen and you have to remember to scroll down in order to find the correct answer, sometimes. It's not obvious when there's additional options off screen, basically. Minor quibble, though :) After using it for over five months, I still enjoy the app, but it really depends what you're expecting to gauge its effectiveness. If you're looking for an app that will provide enough to grow from complete beginner through intermediate levels by using only the app, you'll probably be disappointed. If you're a complete beginner and just want to get down the (very) basics for an elementary foundation (A2), it’s absolutely wonderful and very helpful. I started as a total beginner with Spanish and did well getting through A1 and A2 in a few months with daily practice, passing the certificates for reinforcement. But B1 and B2 feel like I'm using a different app with the switch in teaching method. I don't mind switching to all Spanish for the explanations and teachings, but Busuu's treatment of this approach is totally disjointed from the first half of their curriculum, being it's suddenly assumed that you know Spanish vocabulary that was never introduced in earlier levels. And no, they're not words you can guess (and that's not a good idea anyway, with faux friends in vocab). If your vocabulary is limited to what you learned in Busuu from A1 and A2, you'll be thumbing through a dictionary or using Google Translate just to understand what it is they're trying to "teach" you in their explanations for grammar/usage lessons. And you might get frustrated like me and look for a different resource to teach the concepts at your current ability gained from using Busuu exclusively. As a result, I found easier explanations (in English and Spanish) using free resources like SpanishDict and buying a Barron's grammar to really understand the concepts introduced in the intermediate lessons. From that perspective, the app shifts from being a teaching tool to a reinforcement tool. It's still great as that, but it's definitely no longer an all encompassing tool, which wasn't what I expected. I think I'll try another new language to see if it's as disjointed as the Spanish after the elementary levels, but I'm not sure I'll renew next year. Still, it's a better tool than other resources I've used for French and Russian, like Rosetta or Pimsleur, since Busuu's approach initially offers more grammar and the friendly social aspect.

  • Wasn’t what I hoped for...

Sadly they didn’t have korean and also it was not free, you have to pay for a subscription. So this definitely was not the best app for a causal learner like me. But, for someone looking to seriously learn a new language- it would probably be a good app with the monthly $ commitment. Judging by other reviews alot of people seem to like it. It just isnt the best for someone if they are just causally learning a language
