  • Version “upgrade” last fall is terrible

    By Lupu60
We’ve been geocaching for several years and love it. The app has worked well over that time...until the “improvement “ last fall. It is now extremely difficult to navigate to the cache. For one thing it’s not possible to zoom in very far; the image just pops back out again. But even worse, the compass almost never points towards the cache! (This is not a problem with our compasses as they work perfectly in other applications.) The older version with the direction along the bottom with the mark showing the direction of travel actually got you going in the right direction. The compass now points in seemingly random directions. Now because we can’t depend on our compass, we have to use the number of feet away and maintain the direction where the number falls. We also have never had to depend on the hint as much as we do now. All this is extremely frustrating.

Many, many people paid $10 for their previous app. They discontinued that version and forced everyone onto this one with a subscription. Awful.
  • This Version Needs Subscription

I love to do a random geocache with my family when out and about and to my surprise the original app had a pop up saying it was going to be non functional in march. So I decided to get the updated new app only to find that I need to pay monthly to use it. I paid $10 for the original app that lasted me years. I understand the need for more money to pay a developer to refresh and update an app. I would gladly pay another $10 for a new and improved version but the subscription price is just too high for the amount of geocaching we do. Good Bye Geocaching, It Was Nice While It Lasted.

This app is so much fun you can do it with friends or family. You have to make sure that the muggles don’t see you.If I were you I would be asking what is a muggle.A muggle is a person who doesn’t know what geocaching is.I recommend to get this app it is so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Great hobby

    By Wa$p
I’m going on 3 or 4 years with this hobby. I use this app as well as two others to find caches. This is the most user friendly. And I enjoy the souvenir challenges.
  • Love it but...

By Well what do we have here????
I started geocaching about 7 years ago with my family. I’ve continued to love it and see the great changes that have come through the years. Despite this, I do have to say that I’m incredibly disappointed. Before, you could access all level of caches, not just level 1 ones. This makes the experience for families and those want to experience geocaching for free less appealing. The creator do have to keep in mind that a lot of members have to cover gas and travel costs to reach caches, along with the price of the app. Mainly, it just doesn’t seem fair to offer things for several years to free users and then take back certain aspects.

I’ll never pay the monthly fee for something that should be free seeing as we already paid $10 for the app years ago. What is the money going towards? They don’t put out any caches they don’t maintain the existing caches! We do all that ourselves. Wish I could give 0 stars or negative stars.
  • Greed killed this app

    By Slihnvcfh
I like many others bought the original groundspeak app back in the day. It was a 1 time purchase and I was ok with that. Now they want you to pay for a subscription for this new app. This while they don’t provide the content or maintain it. That is done by volunteers. If they drastically reduced the price maybe I would consider it, but not at this price point.
