The Economist App Reviews

  • Classic Version Functionality Needed

    By James022
The new format is great, but the inability to download previous issues and the inability to use landscape mode (both of which are done easily in the Classic app) make it such that I cannot take advantage of the work you have put into the new app. Please consider adding those two functionalities.
  • Night mode and where’s espresso

    By Anonymous41909
Please add night mode. And it says you folded in espresso but I don’t see it at all. None of the articles. Not one. What is the deal
  • Another failed update

    By Mairsile
The entire update strategy for The Economist is a consistent failure. First, this is the second time I can remember that an update was a new app entirely and not just an update. Second, there were numerous complaints on the previous version after an update removed the ability to make playlists. That feature was gone for months, and the dev team kept responding to reviews saying it was coming. Yet, here is another “update” with that feature removed. It renders my entire subscription useless. I was going to call and cancel my subscription last time this happened once I got fed up, but coincidentally the feature was added back in just before I did. Third, why can’t you just allow people to add an article to a playlist from the reading section. Doesn’t this make the most sense for a playlist? Instead of making us flip back and forth between the audio section and the written section to build the list, put a checkbox on the written section that adds that article to the playlist. Think of the user experience. I’m looking at the title and subtitle of the article to decide if I’m interested, let me add it right there. I guess in this case it’s a good thing the update strategy is a new app, because I can use the old one.
  • Improved but what happened to the playlist?

    By Sphinx711
Classic Edition was hard to navigate but now I can no longer create a playlist of my desired articles when driving. That’s a big miss.
  • Audio missing for current edition

    By VoodooSonic
Audio missing for current edition. Night mode would be awesome. I know you’re working on it. Wonderful app.
  • Espresso *STILL* Broken

    By agiacalone
Somehow, my previous review has been removed. I’ve used the new Economist app since the first day it was released and the Espresso content has not shown up for me once. I reported this bug with the first release and the devs blew me off. It’s still broken as of the 1.1 version release. And yes, devs, I do use the app in the morning and several other times throughout the day. The devs of this app don’t have any other way to leave feedback. One star until this gets fixed.
  • A good start, but only halfway there

    By kjdkjd
Thank God there are adults designing The Economist’s app again...The now-rebranded “Classic” version had been an inexplicable disaster since the major redesign/apparent app developer scam a year or two back. I like the new layout and how the “Daily Picks section looks more like a web news portal than a magazine — easier entry and more digestible. As much as I’d like to read each magazine cover to cover each week, realistically that doesn’t happen and this will help me stay involved with key content. And — hooray! — they’ve fixed the sound on the audio 1.5x and 2x speed playback. Odd that the only “skip” option available when the audio window is minimized to tab size is to skip forward, however, and not skip back. I never skip forward but often skip back. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to access past issues that I’ve paid for, however. This and other (apparently) missing features are what keeps this from being a five-star app.
  • Wish they would fix the “classic” app instead

    By msof
Instead of finally fixing the “classic” app, The Economist brings us another totally buggy app that doesn’t work properly when you are offline (like on an airplane). It is such a shame that the people at The Economist are so utterly clueless when it comes to digital. It is the only publication in the world where the paper version is actually a necessity because the digital edition has so many problems that it is often unusable. Sad. Just sad.
  • Please enable text selection

    By _x3n
Without text selection we lack the ability to look up words, search the web, or share quotes quickly.
  • One suggestion

A very elegant app that makes reading easy. But there is no way for me to select and look up definition for words while I’m in the Economist app.
