Hawaii Revealed App Reviews

  • Subscriptions don’t work for Families

    By kilauea88
1 Star. We’ve bought every printed version of “Big Island Revealed” since it was first published, and finally this week decided to buy the new app and subscribe to the “Big Island” content, only to find that Family Sharing doesn’t work for the $7.99 subscription...when you try to restore a subscription a round indicator just spins and spins and nothing ever happens. We killed the app and tried multiple times, waiting up to 15 minutes each time, with no luck. The content itself generally seems to match the book, but you can’t turn an iPhone to landscape mode and some photos are not able to be zoomed, so many of the photos are too small to be able to viewed in any detail. Considering asking Apple for a refund of the subscription price since it doesn’t work for Family sharing.

    Thanks for fixing the problem
  • Resort search

    By Dermot Schankel
This app is the best way to find a resort. We were able to filter the places based on different things and we saw the best sights recommended by the author. So much better than your old apps.
  • Very useful

This is a great app to know so much about Hawaii. The photos and details of every location are extremely helpful. Using it to plan a summer trip to Hawaii and loving everything about it.
  • I think it’s great

Having used this app through the beta and then the release, I have to say there have been a few bugs. However, the company has been fixing these as they come out. Customer service has been extremely fast in their response so there’s that too. The content is great and the notices they send have been spot on. I used both the book and the app on Oahu and I think it made a big difference in my stay. Overall I’d say it’s the best app for all of the islands. As for the remarks about the old apps not working, I have two of them and they seem to work fine with OS 11. (Although the information in them is old and kinda useless).
  • New app vs old app

    By 329ChiTown
I bought this app and I had old apps. The new app has some features I like such as favorites and the filters like for selecting a specific hotel with specific amenities. The maps are a bit less efficient than the previous app but they have been releasing updates since the app came out and hopefully those will be fixed. I like that this app is updated all the time, the old apps didn’t seem as timely or current for me. I travel to Hawaii a lot.
  • Love it!

We only went to Maui so just bought the app for that island. We are so glad that we read the book and used the app on our trip. This is must have!
  • Great app, but if you use with the book

    By NihonGoose
I’ve had the book, the old app, and the new app with a subscription for Maui. This company puts out such throughly comprehensive and insightful information that I can’t really mark it down, but the new app format admittedly needs work. Having taken several trips to the islands, I honestly like the book the best for doing pre-trip planning and using the app while out and about on the island. That was the old app though... The presentation of the new app looks great, their use of photos brings it up to date and looks more appealing, but it is more frustrating to use and filter each category to find what you need. Having a subscription based service for the most up to date info is great, and their website is upfront about how to cancel so I don’t think this is an issue. Until the kinks are worked out, and since the old apps aren’t available I would recommend both buying both the app and the book. Admittedly that is expensive, but completely worth the extra money to give you the best info for the best trip possible. Don’t waste your time with any other resource.
  • Wonderful

Such a great app with tons of information. Well worth the subscription. It is so detailed from what to pack to where to stay. If your planing a trip this is a must have.
  • Ripoff....dishonest, no integrity, DO NOT BUY - beware

    By CruisinCali
This app is a spin-off of previous individual apps, based on the books “The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook”, “Hawaii - The Big Island Revealed”, “Maui Revealed”, etc. by Andrew Doughty The author of those books stopped supporting those books and apps more than over a year ago. Now he’s come back with a different app, with a different name, different website domain and app developer. In addition, you now have to subscribe to a recurring annual fee to use this new all inclusive app. I purchased the above individual apps a few years ago at $8 dollars a piece ($32 total), now those apps are gone and no longer available. What a great way to treat previous customers, who have ALREADY PAYED for the previous apps and now renamed to a single app. Andrew Doughty and all involved in this newly released app, should be ashamed of themselves.
