Carbon - B&W Photo Editor App Reviews

  • A love and hate

    By R. Rosen
So I must begin by admiring the filters. I am a professional photographer and rarely do images hit my phone without being rendered complete. But with this app I found myself exploring new options for my finished images as black and white photos. And I was impressed. And I’m glad to spend the money to purchase all the add-ons... but like all apps, when I test I test for many things, including compression. This was most frustrating. I found that if I take a 14mb image, this app would compress it down to 450kb when saved. If I chose to save Through direct airdrop, the image. Would still compress but would net out at 850kb. Either way, I would much rather be in control of the compression output, over the app dictating this. For how much I loved the filters, I would consider my images to remain under that black and white look. So, I have a hard time giving a better rating until the compression issue is fixed. But I love the simplicity and filters of the app otherwise. I look forward to changing my review, this is a good app.

This app (3.99 version) does little. The developer spent far more time making the app look glamorous. But it’s slow and constantly taking you to the shopping cart so you can buy more features. Silliness- you cannot empty the shopping cart, it keeps getting more and more full. Silliness - adding a border crops your image.

  • Not going to risk it but I did for 75% off DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO PRINT YOUR PHOTOS!!

September 20, 2018 Moving it down to 1 Star. Ok so today I get a pop up saying it was 75% off today only and after reading about other reviews say it save low quality files so I wasn’t going to risk it at 1/2 off but thought to my self what the heck for 75% off I would give it a try. I should have listened to the reviews that said it save photos at low resolution. I have a Nikon D7100 and a jpeg file I imported from my camera was 10.1 MB when I was done with editing my photo and I have to say it did look good but when I upload them to Wallgreens to have printed I got the big yellow ! Saying I could print it but they don’t recommend it. So I use a app call Exif Viewer and it said it took my 10.1 MB file and compressed it to 572 KB. Why in the hel* would you pay full price of $40 for a app to edit your photo that you can can’t even get printed after you edited them. If all you want to do is edit and post on Facebook then this is the app for you. If you actually want to print your photo use darkroom, color story, or raw power. I don’t recommend anyone who wants to print their photos to use this app. DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO PRINT YOUR PHOTO!!! They should put it in the description of the app that it will compress your files so much that you can’t get them printed. What a waste of my money. July 29 2018 Looking over the reviews and saw a couple that said it would save your photos at lower resolution and I’m not to sure if it does or not because my iPhone saves HEIF and the app saves to JPEG. What I can say is it removes all of the EXIF data. I like the app ok but I would like to retain my EXIF data from my iPhone 7. So even if it’s on sale I’ll pass.
  • Very smart looking app

The app is great. It is very sleek and easy to use. It really does class up certain photos when you turn them into black and white. This app just makes it simple to do so. Developer responded to email in short amount of time and answered questions I had. Really excellent.
  • Who Cares About Privacy?

I do. Invasive “privacy” policy disqualifies this tracking device posing as a photo editor. Who the hell do these companies think they are?
  • Crashing

It crashes every-single-time in my iPad mini 4. Every-single-time.
  • Spend the $20

This app is amazing. It’s so hard to edit/create variations of black & white pictures and filters, and with this app you never have to do that again. It’s not just b&w filters either, when you pay $20 for all access you get sooooo many amazing features like duo-tone filters, light leaks, textures, negatives, and even a whole set dedicated to grain variations!!! I haven’t been able to find an app that provides so many cool duo-tone/negative variations and filters, or even b&w filter variations until i bought this app. You can create so many amazing things, and adjust them to your liking which is huge for duo-tone and negatives. Even better - the images you save and export don’t lose any quality!!!! They always look crisp and amazing. Also, a bonus is that you can layer as many effects as you want!!!!! As well as undo/redo the changes you’ve made. (make sure this is turned on in the app settings) You can also crop/rotate your images (they have a bunch of crop variations you can choose from!!!! or you can freely crop the photo) They also have a wide variety of powerful editing tools that allow you to make very detailed, intelligent adjustments. (kind of like Adobe’s Lightroom mobile adjustment tools vs. other basic editing apps) In conclusion, spend the $20. When you do, your photos will speak for themselves. The infinite possibilities in this app allow you to explore your creativity in a way you never have before. Thank you to the developers for such an awesome, high quality app!!! Spend the $20, you won’t regret it!!!! -Claire
  • Disappointed

This would be great if... If I didn’t have to buy the black and white filter but I did... If THEY WERE NOT CONSTANTLY TRYING TO SELL YOU ALL OF THE OTHER FILTERS. I can’t even use what I bought. What a drag
