There is simply nothing better. I’ve tried them all and am so happy to find Bear. Giant Kudos to the Dracula Theme. Now it matches my development environment :) Thanks for such an amazing app!

I really like this app, I practically use this app every morning, something I would really like to see is a widget in apples widgets section. That would be dope. Love the app, appreciate all the hard work you guys, keep doing you.

Only needs some sort of collaboration feature to make it 5 stars.
  • I love Bear!

I’m a student and I was looking for a way to take notes that would hold my interest and keep my information organized.I tried Bear out on my phone and fell in love. Everything about this app is streamlined, from the tag feature to the markdown shortcuts that make it easy to perform all the functions quickly whether I’m on my phone or laptop. Truly a wonderful app. I also love that a subscription isn’t required to enjoy nearly all the features, and instead is just helpful for syncing notes and choosing themes. Some note apps will scam you for every dollar you have, and this app is not one of those. If you decide on a subscription, it’s reasonably priced and shows their dedication to creating a great note app for everyone regardless of their income. The only thing I would love to see in the future is a lock feature for notes that have important information like passwords and such. Thanks Bear, you’ve changed the way I take notes! I wouldn’t delete this app for anything :)
  • Great but drawing is lacking

I downloaded this as a replacement for the iOS notes app because it's somewhat glitchy and the writing tools are VERY barebones, whereas Bear looked much nicer. The writing function itself is much nicer, I especially like that you can have a dark theme and change text size, but the one thing preventing me from switching over is the drawing. I greatly enjoy the iOS notes app's drawing features. Bear's are lacking in comparison. See, iOS notes has distinct tools, the important ones to me are pencil, pen, and highlighter. Bear has the pen and highlighter, only they are much different from the way they function on iOS notes. iOS Highlighter is somewhat transparent but you can basically lay down multiple layers to make it darker and more opaque (therefore having a much larger range of possible colors, allowing for coloring and shading), and iOS pencil has the texture of a pencil, thus effective for sketching. And because highlighter is not opaque in the iOS notes, it can be used effectively for coloring, with the sketch lines from the pencil tool under it being visible, and then finally I can go over the lines with the pen tool. What I do, what I need an app like this for, is I like to write out stories and then illustrate them (I am also an artist), which is why I cannot switch to Bear despite the writing aspect being much more powerful and functional - the drawing tools just aren't good enough for my needs. If you improved the drawing feature to work like how it does in the iOS notes app, Bear would be absolutely perfect. I don't know if an app dev would read this but know this is a wonderful app with a wonderful name (I love bears) but just that prevents me from switching over.
  • The best for notes, brainstorming, and more

Bear has been my go to app for so many things over the last couple of years. I took notes for school, organized a freelance project, stored gift ideas, gathered tattoo ideas, and put together image boards. All from a simple notes app that syncs across all my devices. Absolutely worth the subscription to support the developers of such a useful app.
  • No spellcheck!!!

If only there was a spellcheck in this app. There is nothing more annoying and off-putting than reading something with typos and grammatical errors. It distracts from the meaning and completely destroys credibility of the author. Writing on the phone allows to capture ideas anywhere and as soon as the inspiration hits you. But on the small screen and tiny keyboard, on the go, even with predictive text usage, there would remain typos. Proofreading what’s just been typed is usually not an option and not a task that we should be doing in this day and age, at least not proofreading for misspelling typos. So many other (and free) note-taking apps would underscore in red the mistyped words, some even do grammar, and for feee (e.g., MS Word for iOS). But not Bear and the subscription won’t buy it for you either. If you spot a typo yourself, you can touch the word and the proper spelling would be suggested, otherwise Bear just ignores any and all misleading. What’s most frustrating is knowing that spellcheck is a default functionality available anywhere in native iOS text entry (Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Mail etc.) meaning that this functionality is already available in the standard iOS libraries which use on the local downloaded dictionaries. Why not just use them? And/or there are numerous free web services which perform spellcheck in the online mode (such as what’s used in Google Docs). What’s the use of this writing app if it doesn’t help proper writing, if I need to copy all my text to MS Word (right on iPhone) to see and fix typos there before I can generate and publish my articles? If the cost of subscription cannot cover such a basic function, what is it good for, and what else is missing? (I have answers to the last question, but it’s for another post, if I would even stick with this app in its present implementation.)
  • Make the FAB more functional

When I tap the floating action button to create a new note, I’d love to see some quick formatting options to choose from. I often want to quickly write a checklist or a itemized list and find it annoying that I have to take the extra time to choose those components myself. These notes could also display in the user’s list of notes with a simple checkmark or radio button type icon. Though simple, this is the kind of feature that will pull people away from bothering with Wunderlist, etc. I’m a UX designer and would love to help your team test more scenario-based design strategies like this, so feel free to reach out. I hope this helps!
  • Almost perfect, but missing key features

    2
    By BeingDS
This app is great. I love using it, I love what it outputs... but I’m looking for a replacement. For 18 months, they’ve been promising to add simple features like tables, LaTeX compatibility, superscript, and subscript. And... nothing. Worse, their Twitter account now says they will have to scrap the whole app and begin again from scratch if they are to add these things. I need to transcribe my university notes today... not in a year or two or whenever they decide to get their act together. Very sad. If they sucked, I’d move on and not even leave a review. This hurts because they’re 90% perfect, but seem unwilling or unable to make the last little push to be flawless.
  • Elegant, Intuitive, & Powerful

Sounds like ad copy for the “all new 2019 Cadillac Something-Or-Other”, right? Maybe not. Anyhoo, Bear is by far and away the most robust yet easily navigable app of its kind* that I’ve ever seen. That asterisk denotes the fact that I’m not even sure what “kind” of app this is - a notebook? Yes, indeed! A customizable, super searchable document database? Yup! I use it mainly as a kind of butterfly net, a metaphor wherein my random creative ideas are butterflies. Don’t you want that in your life?
