The powerful combination of award-winning apps and a proven method—YNAB’s Four Rules—has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people by teaching them to get control of their finances, stop stressing, and live the life they want to live. A Proven Method—YNAB’s Four Rules Rule One: Give Every Dollar A Job | Be intentional about what you want your money to do before you spend it. Rule Two: Embrace Your True Expenses | Break up larger, less frequent expenses into smaller, manageable amounts. By saving monthly for insurance premiums, holidays, or car repairs, when the time comes, your money is ready and waiting to do its job. Rule Three: Roll With The Punches | When life changes, so must your budget. Make adjustments and move along. Flexible budgets succeed because they’re guilt-free, realistic, and sustainable. Rule Four: Age Your Money | As you repeat the first three rules, you’ll increase the time between earning a dollar and the moment you need to spend it. When your money is at least a month old, you’ll have finally broken the paycheck to paycheck cycle for good. • Does not sync with web version.

I’m not maintaining the budget in two places, and the app does not sync with my web budget. So I’ll probably just delete the app, even though it’s otherwise decent.

I used to look forward to payday because it meant I could pay rent and eat this month. But with YNAB, payday is now just another day. Two years ago, I started my first job out of college with less than $100 to my name. Now, this month’s expenses were paid for two months ago. I never thought I would get to financial security this quickly, and it feels good!

Marking a transaction as a transfer from one account to another on iOS is really confusing so I always just wait until I get to a computer to do it on the website

I am in my 40s and I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t yet fully grasped the concept of budgeting. I have attempted many times over the years to start only to hit a mental roadblock in the planning stage. That means that I didn’t even start budgeting. I gave up each time. My anxiety about money has reached an all time high due to the fact that my job is unstable and I may face a change in income in the near future. Shouldn’t we all plan for this anyway? I’m terrible at changing my spending habits and I need help, desperately. I had glanced at YNAB about a year ago and opted for a free budgeting option, instead. This option wasn’t working for me either. Yesterday, finally, I dove into YNAB and regret that I didn’t pick it up the first time I noticed it. The format along with the workshops (available live through their site and app or after-the-fact on YouTube) has brought me to a level of understanding that I have never had of budgeting in the past. YNAB makes total sense to me! I am beyond excited to get started to gain control and bring my stress level down. I’ll post another review when I’ve used the app for a few months.
  • Best Budgeting App

I tried many budgeting apps and this is my absolute favorite. The things I like about this app is that it works even when phone isn’t within cell service or wifi reception. And I love being able to enter a transaction when I make it without having duplicate transactions when it automatically downloads (the app automatically matches the transaction). I think it is mentally important to live in the present/future when budgeting (to see real time effect to your account balance) and is why I like to enter a restaurant purchase manually and then have app match it to the automatic downloads.

Used the app this morning and it’s not working right. The help chat is not working either.

I’ve paid off $6000 in 9 months. I know where all my money is. I know when every bill is due. I know what I can afford and what I can’t. I love YNAB.
  • App is great, customer service is second to none.

I’ve been using YNAB for a long time now, and this latest update makes it the best YNAB yet. More than that, this is, by far, the best budgeting app I’ve ever used; and I’ve used a lot. This app has literally changed my life. Since I started using it, I have had less money-related stress, was able to buy my first house easily, have bought a new truck that, just a couple of years ago, would’ve been far out of my reach, and have greatly improved my credit score. Not only is it the best budgeting app, but they have the best customer service I’ve ever interacted with. Any time I’ve had an issue or a question, they’ve responded very quickly, often within minutes. (I must admit to being a bit high-maintenance, as I’ve contacted them many, MANY times.) I, frankly, was not happy when they went cloud-based, I would still prefer to keep my data locally, but it’s been such great help to me, that I can’t imagine switching to anything else. UPDATE: I still love YNAB. Everything I said above is unchanged, but I did remove a star because the app is missing 2 crucial features: Search, and in-app reconciling. The service is still worth far more to me than the amount I pay, but these are major holes in the app.
  • Features Needed: Flexible Time Schedule

I am on vacation for 42 days and want to just make a budget for that time frame. It should be easy and accessible to move around the budget as 1, recurring every month/2-week cycle/any time frame, or 2, a 1-time span of time. Currency conversions should automatically consider exchange rates and adjust instantaneously for international travelers.
